What these sessions look like
A gentle, unhurried space for children and younger adolescents. We make room for worries that are hard to put into words, pressure at school, friendship difficulties or unkindness, changes at home, and the quietness that sometimes follows. Sessions move at your child's pace, with no expectation that they explain themselves neatly.
How this works for parents: a parent or legal guardian arranges the sessions and consents to them. Confidentiality works a little differently with a child than with an adult. Your child needs enough privacy to speak freely, so you are kept informed of the themes we are working on and how things are progressing, rather than given a record of everything said. Anything that raises a concern about your child's safety is always shared with you. Depending on your child's age and situation, some sessions may include you, and we decide that together.
This may suit you if
- A child who seems worried, tearful, or unusually quiet
- School pressure, or difficulty with friends and teasing
- Changes at home that your child is finding hard
Common questions
Child Counselling, answered
- Who arranges the sessions?
- A parent or legal guardian arranges the sessions and gives consent for them. You are welcome to ask me anything before we begin.
- Will you tell me everything my child says?
- Not word for word. Your child needs enough privacy to speak freely, so I share the themes we are working on and how things are progressing, rather than a transcript. Anything that raises a concern about safety is always shared with you.
- Will I be in the session?
- Sometimes. Depending on your child's age and what is going on, some sessions may include you, and we plan that together.
